GEDmatch is a 3rd party genetic genealogy tool site. It has both free and premium tools. It offers users the ability to opt into law enforcement sample matching. The following instructions are intended for someone who does not already have an account with GEDmatch.
Go to the GEDmatch user registration page, https://gedmatch/register.php. Enter your name, an alias, your email address, and a password. Then click the Submit button.
Email Confirmation Code
You will be emailed a confirmation code. Enter this code on the next page, and click the Confirm button.
You can now login to your new GEDmatch account by clicking the login button on the top right.
Email & Password
On the the next page, enter the email and password you used to create your account. Then, click the Log in button.
Accept Terms of Service
The first time you login, you will need to read through the Terms of Service and accept them. If you are helping someone else create an account, please be sure they fully understand the Terms of Service before moving forward. To accept, go to Option #1 and click the blue HERE link.
Once you have logged into GEDmatch, go the the Upload your DNA files section. Click the link for Generic Uploads (23andme, FTDNA, AncestryDNA, most others).
File Profile Information
Fill our the questionnaire about the DNA profile you are uploading. It is OK to leave some fields blank.
Be sure to Opt-in
When you get to the privacy options for the kit, please be sure to Opt-in.
