GEDmatch is a 3rd party DNA tool site that allows users to opt-into matching for law enforcement cases involving unknown identities (Jane, John, and Baby Doe cases) and violent crimes. While over a million people have uploaded their DNA results to GEDmatch, only a fraction of them have opted-into law enforcement matching. This guide is intended to help those who already have GEDmatch profiles opt-in to law enforcement matching.
Login to GEDmatch
Go to the GEDmatch site, https://gedmatch.com. Login by entering your email and password and then clicking the Log in button.
Scroll down to the Your DNA Resources section. Find the DNA profile you want to change, and click the yellow pencil to the right of it.
On the next page, find the Public Profile section. Select Public, with Law Enforcement access. Then click the Change button.
In the Your DNA resources section, you should now see a yellow badge and the word POLICE next to the DNA profile you changed.
That’s it. Please share this information with your friends and family. Together, we can make a difference.
